I really appreciate these two coming downtown with me at the very, very late end of our shoot so I could get off a few shots at The Taubman. I had organized a wedding fashion shoot there at the end of the week and wanted to try out a few angles for a shot I had planned. I think it worked out well for the both of us.
But, we really had planned more natural environmental shots and things worked out well there, too. Although the field shots turned out very nicely, we actually missed one of the most spectacular skies I have ever had on an evening shoot. It really was my fault, but as we were driving downtown the sky became a stunningly brilliant red and orange, and rather than stop and get just a decent shot, I made the executive decision to go for a spectacular shot at a better location close by. Well……we missed it. But, Kelly and Justin were very understanding. It’s a good thing they couldn’t see what was in my head :)

Just a few more cause I really dug this session and some of the cool stuff we got. These two are easy and fun :)

I think I’ve had enough clouds lately, but this shot during last evenings eSession makes me like clouds. Just enough, just the right shape, in just the right place. Now…….scat cause my weekends here!

Winter eSessions are kind of cozy but really they take much cooperation with the weather. This was really a perfect January day to do one, too. I think it was about 60º or close to it. The sky was overcast for a lot of it with just enough brightness. And of course the most important ingredient….another great couple. Fun, easy going, and into it.
I think it shows :)
Here’s the slideshow….just click the image.

Winter eSessions can be a challenge with the unpredictable weather, cold, lack of vegetation, etc. But, I kind of dig the colors that winter offers. I did an eSession with Jenna and Robbie today and I’m not ready to blog it but I really liked this shot when I was downloading.
Great shot Kemp! The blurred train in the background, coupled with the lines from the fence , adds surrealism to the shot.
Anna Lockwood said...What a unique shot! The colors are so vivid. Excited to see the rest!

Here’s a few from an eSession I did a few weeks ago for a really fun couple that is getting married next year in Asheville. Don’t they look fantastic in sunflowers?
Ok, this one had me cracking up. I take only partial responsibility for the creative direction in this next series, Brian is responsible for the spontaneous deviation in shot #2.
Amanda and Brian, thanks for a fun evening of shooting. You make a fantastic couple and lots of good stuff ahead for you guys.
Word of Advice to Amanda: Make sure he washes his hands thoroughly and often.

Gena and Matt live in Richmond but are getting married at the beautiful Rockwood Manor next April so we tripped out there for a little eSession a few weeks ago at about the same time of day they have their ceremony set for.
What a BEE-UUU-TEEE-FUL setting for a wedding at this gorgeous 130 year old historic mansion set in the rolling hills of Dublin, VA. This gem, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, not only has an accomodating interior, but has all kinds of little vignettes on the grounds that provide awesome backdrops for a wedding. Yum, yum.
So we had perfect weather, an awesome setting, and great conversation which always means you will have beautiful relaxed portraits for an eSession. Here’s a few. I let Gena pick them out which is something I don’t usually do. I have to say she did a great job, although I did throw in one of my faves.
See you guys in April! It’ll be a brand new world by then ;)

Thank You for the great comments and you are quite talented. Love all the personal shots
and how natural they feel. Do you do you own website too?

Amanda and Brian hit it just right to be a part of crop circle goodness. Just had to post this one cause it proves that sunflowers aren’t just for the bees. There actually was one buzzing right above Brian’s head in one of the shots. More to come of this shoot a little later.

Hey, I’m diggin’ that awesome sky and trippy shadow action for Kim and Brett’s esession. It was really kind of a fluke cloud cause the evening was pretty wide open sky for the most part. You never know when some background lovin’ will come your way.
This is a great couple and I’m really excited about their wedding ’cause the reception is right downtown on Market St and we can just trip out any time we want to for a mini-shoot. Maybe we can even get a little penthouse view for a few! It will be a blast.
